 Memorable Interviews

Memorable Interviews

Most of us have experienced interviews that are hard to forget. Maybe you have said the wrong thing at the wrong time, or, well into the interview, you may have noticed that you are wearing two different colored socks. What makes an interview memorable? Do you have any to share?

Check out the following Memorable Interviews. If you have one you would like to share, please identify your role and describe what took place. If interviewing as an employer, identify type of company or industry. Send it to paula@shursearch.com.

Employer
I was screening candidates for a very high level position within the company and chose to schedule interviews off-site to maintain confidentiality surrounding the search. This attention proved inadequate by my failure to schedule time BETWEEN interviews. Two candidates, who would have had no other reason to be in an Embassy Suites lobby in the middle of the day – except to interview -- ran into each other. Needless to say, I am more careful about scheduling now.
- HR Director, Holding Company

Job Seeker
I was on a second interview for an HR management position I was very interested in. Dealing with a slight case of the nerves beforehand, I drank several glasses of water. After ninety minutes of Chinese water torture, when we got down to the “Do you have any questions?” question, I blurted out “Where’s the bathroom?” A reasonable request, I just wish I hadn’t delivered it with such desperation. (I still got the job!)
- Training Director, Consumer Products Co.
